Frequently Asked Questions

To assign a picture to a yarn, pattern, or logbook entry on the iPod touch, you first have to get the picture into your iPod's photo albums. There are a couple of ways to get photos onto your device:

First, you can set up iTunes to sync photos from your desktop computer. Apple has some background information about what photo sources can be synced based on your operating system here. To set up photo syncing, launch iTunes and plug in your iPod. Select your iPod from the list on the left side of the screen, then click on the Photos tab. Check the box labeled "Sync Photos From..." and select the source of the photos. Go back to the Summary tab and press the Sync button to start the sync process, which should now include photo syncing.

The other way to get photos onto your iPod is to copy them from an email message or a web page. This is particularly useful for getting yarn and pattern photos from the manufacturers' web sites. You need to be connected to a WiFi network in order to get photos from the web. Open Safari and navigate to a web page that has a photo you would like to use. While viewing that page, touch the photo and hold your finger on the screen until a menu pops up from the bottom of the screen. Touch the "Save Photo" button and the photo will be stored on your iPod.

Now you can go back to KnitMinder and add these saved or synced photos to your entries.

Pictures in the Projects section work a little bit differently than pictures in the Yarn and Pattern sections. There isn't a button for selecting a picture for your project like there is in the other sections; instead, KnitMinder uses the most-recent photo from the project's logbook as the project picture. The idea is that you will always see the most recent state of your project, assuming that you're tracking your progress with the logbook and adding pictures as you go.

If you aren't actively using the project logbook but still want a picture next to your project, you can simply add a single logbook entry that contains the picture you want. Here's how to do that:

  1. Select the project from the project list.
  2. Touch the "logbook" button under the project. The Logbook screen will appear (and it may be empty if you haven't used the logbook yet).
  3. Touch the plus button at the top right of the screen to create a new logbook entry. The Edit Logbook Entry screen will appear.
  4. Touch the Options button at the top right of the screen to see the logbook entry options. A list of buttons will pop up from the bottom of the screen.
  5. Touch the "Select Photo" or the "Take Photo" (iPhone only) button and choose a photo for your project.
  6. Once you're done, use the button at the top left of the screen to back out to the project list again. The photo you selected will be displayed next to the project.

We will never charge for updates to any of our products, ever. Once you buy one of our applications, you won't have to pay to keep using it. Prices may change in the future, but updates to the core program will always be free.

When updates are released to KnitMinder, StitchMinder, or any of the Quilt2Go applications, you can download them in one of two ways:

On your iPhone/iPod touch:

Touch the App Store icon on your device to launch the App Store program, then touch the "Updates" icon at the lower right-hand side of the screen. The screen will either read "All Apps Are Up to Date" or will have a list of applications to be updated. Touch the "Update All" button at the top right of the screen, type in your iTunes password, and your device will automatically download and install the listed programs.

On your computer:

Open iTunes and click on the "Applications" icon under the LIBRARY heading. At the bottom right of the screen, click on "Check for Updates". You will either see a message stating that there are no updates available or will be shown a list of updated applications. Click on the "Update All Applications" button to download the updated apps. Once all of the apps have been downloaded, plug your iPhone or iPod touch into your computer and sync with iTunes.

Deleting any item (yarn, needle, counter, logbook entry, etc.) in KnitMinder works just like deleting a single email message: when you're looking at a list of items, just swipe your finger from left to right over the item you want to delete, and a red delete button will appear. Touch that button to permanently delete the item.

Settings AppSettings AppTo change from imperial (US) to metric needle sizes, exit KnitMinder by pressing the Home button on your device. Find the Settings icon and touch it to launch the Settings app. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and locate the KnitMinder button. Touch that button and select from the two preferences for metric or imperial units and the preferred yarn weight nomenclature. These changes take effect the next time you launch KnitMinder.

KnitMinder Lite is the free version of KnitMinder that allows you to try the program out before you buy. KnitMinder Lite functions exactly the same as KnitMinder, but limits you to the following maximum number of items:

  • 5 needles
  • 8 yarns
  • 3 patterns
  • 2 projects
  • 4 counters per project
  • 10 logbook entries per project

Please note that you currently will not be able to import your KnitMinder Lite projects into KnitMinder, but we're working on that issue.

In StitchMinder 1.0.2 and later, you can undo a count by touching the counter and dragging your fingertip over to another counter, then letting your finger up. In KnitMinder and KnitMinder Lite, double-tap the counter and it will undo the last count.

  1. Exit StitchMinder by pressing the round button below the screen (don't worry, your counts are safe!)
  2. Open the Settings application
  3. Scroll down in the list of settings until you see StitchMinder
  4. Select StitchMinder, then tap on the switch next to "Sound" to turn on sounds.

StitchMinder is a free knitting stitch and row counter for the iPhone and iPod touch. Four different counters can be used to track pattern rows, pattern repeats, increase/decrease rows and repeats, and anything else that needs counting. Counters can be preset to start from a particular value and can either count up or down and can be reset at any time. Counters are also saved when you exit the app or when an incoming phone call interrupts your knitting.
